The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is an indirect tax on goods and services in India. It's a multi-stage, destination-based tax that applies to all value additions. GST started on July 1, 2017, replacing most indirect taxes in the country. It has five tax brackets: 0%, 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%. Some goods, like petroleum, alcoholic beverages, and electricity, are exempt from the Free GST Calculator. Under the old tax system, individual states taxed these products. What are the different GST tax heads?

There are four types of GST:

  1. Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST).
  2. State Goods and Services Tax (SGST).
  3. Union Territory Goods and Services Tax (UTGST).
  4. Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST).

**Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST): The CGST combines all central taxes. Before they applied it, central excise duties and other indirect taxes existed.

State Goods and Services Tax (SGST): SGST includes all state taxes. This includes state indirect taxes, VAT, sales tax, cesses, and surcharges.

Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST): It is on the interstate transport of goods and services.

UTGST, or Union Territory Goods and Services Tax, is an Act. It taxes and collects on intra-state supplies of goods or services in a Union territory. The Act also addresses related matters.
